The High Decoupling Magnetic Transporters handle more axial force and torque and exhibit better compliance and load carrying capability than typically expected from a magnetically-coupled feedthrough. This increase in force and torque results in greater tactile feedback, lower backlash, and greater ability to overcome friction. Modern rare earth magnets and some highly evolved CAD programs are used to achieve this unusually high performance.

Independence of linear and rotational motion is the key to versatility in these systems. The round rotary shaft is contained within the outer square linear motion shaft and rotation is completely independent of it. Thus, rotary motion and linear motion can be used in combination or separately, providing numerous potential combinations of sample movement. Examples include locking devices for sample transfer, various clamping devices, vertical lift & deliver mechanisms, and custom rotatable stages.

The precision magnetic transporters are manufactured as linearonly and linear/rotary models. All models use UHV all-metal internal construction.

Model PMTLRP uses polymeric bearings outside the vacuum, and as a result, have a slightly higher stiction than the metal bearing units. They are intended for sample transferring and similar functions, where the slight amount of stiction is acceptable or desirable. This construction is a more economical design than the external metal bearing units.

Models PMTLOM and PMTLRM use all metal construction throughout, and as a result, have very low stiction. These models are intended for transporter applications where very good tactical feedback is desired or for high duty cycle applications.
