General stepper motor info:
There are 200 steps per revolution on a stepper motor.
360° / 200 steps = 1.8° per step
These are 'full steps' and to increase the resolution we do what is called micro stepping. To get more accuracy each of the 200 steps per revolution can be divided by the motor controller circuit.
Half-stepping doubles the steps per revolution to 400 and the motor will rotate 0.9° per step. 360° / 400 = 0.9° per step
The controller can be configured for up to 256 microsteps. So that is 256 divisions between one of the motors 200 steps, or 51.200 steps per revolution.200 steps * 256 micro steps = 51,200 steps/rev. 360° / 51,200 = 0.007° per step.
The higher the micro stepping value the more resolution, but the motor will also rotate slower.
